Our Journey to New Zealand
Twenty years ago, Penny, our two daughters, and I embarked on a life-changing move from Gaborone, Botswana to Christchurch, New Zealand. We embraced our new home, but it wasn't without its challenges. Despite the cultural similarities between our two countries, adapting to the Kiwi way of life and its unique weather patterns took time.
Pioneering Pothole Patching Solutions
After settling in and familiarizing ourselves with the business landscape, I started a small venture importing and reselling pothole patch (cold patch) in New Zealand. While the concept was well- received, importing the product proved to be less than ideal. That';s when we recognized the need for local manufacturing. Initially facing a few obstacles, we sought assistance from the Isaac Construction and Lady Diana Isaac, who generously offered to help us produce the patch using their hot mix asphalt plant. Through experiments adhering to New Zealand's rigorous roading specifications, we successfully developed a locally made, high-quality product.
Introducing Asphalt in a Bag
Proudly, we became the first in New Zealand to introduce a bagged, ready-to-use pothole patch that eliminates the need for premixing or adding liquids to solids. We approached various DIY stores with our innovative product, and several of them graciously granted us the opportunity to place Asphalt in a Bag on their shelves on a sale or return basis. Within a few weeks, we started receiving repeat orders, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Nationwide Availability and International Success
Today, Asphalt in a Bag is readily available nationwide through most DIY outlets and online via this website. We take great pride in being the sole manufacturer in New Zealand capable of producing a dense mix cold patch—a product that has gained immense popularity. In fact, we now export our cold patch to various countries, spreading the success of our unique solution worldwide.
